Your typical day could involve giving medicines to patients, either on prescription or over the counter and providing information on potential side-effects.

To select, label, compound and dispense pharmaceutical products in accordance with a prescription by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and complying with all legal requirements.

To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients.

To identify medicine related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist.

To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where it is within their competence.

To accurately maintain Patient Medication Records (PMR) to ensure patient safety and in accordance with data protection requirements.

To receive stock in accordance with SOPs

To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines.

To assist with stock control and the maintenance of reasonable stock levels within the dispensary.

To respond to verbal and face-to-face queries of a routine pharmaceutical nature from patients or their representatives and to refer queries to the pharmacist when appropriate.

To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary care.

To assist with service provision to care homes including the preparation of Monitored Dosage Systems.

To assist with the engagement of patients onto advanced services and assist with the provision of those services where appropriate.

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of pharmaceutical matters by complying with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

To assist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by carrying out reasonable duties as determined by the pharmacist.

Quadrant Pharmacy is looking for a full or part time dispensing technician (or trainee) to work within the independent community pharmacy setting. The pharmacy is a Healthy Living Pharmacy providing vaccinations, travel clinics and public health services, concentrating on excellent patient care and customer service. We have recently undertaken a major refit and invested in our technology (including a robot) and our technicians and support staff.

Depending on experience you will work under the supervision of a pharmacist. You'll speak with patients, offering them advice on how to best manage their medicines.

Youll work with patients to reach the best possible care for them, advising them on their health, how to take their medicines and their lifestyle choice. This could be face-to-face or over the phone. You will need to:

  • have good communication skills
  • have the ability to work effectively with your colleagues, patients and the public
  • be able to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • be responsible, accurate and methodical, with good attention to detail
  • have an interest in helping people and improving peoples health
