Band Consultant: £93,666 to £126,281 a year per annum pro-rata  PERMANENT 

The job includes the following responsibilities:

Provide an on-call service on a pro rata basis (on-call starts Tuesday and goes on continuously up to following Monday) 40 outpatient clinics per year (mixture of complex epilepsy, IIH, and general neurology) Providing support to the specialist nursing team and middle grade staff/ trainees, both whilst on-call an out of the on-call weeks on an as and when required basis Attending various multidisciplinary and specialist meetings such as the EEG meeting, MRI meeting, histopathology meeting, neuro-oncology meeting, IIH/ complex CSF meeting Providing support to 2 outreach centers - This includes delivering 4 full day clinics per year for each hospital, and supporting the local pediatricians and nurses caring for their own patients.

Applications are invited for a Consultant post in Paediatric Neurology (5PA's) at CUH from June 2024. The successful applicant will join a team of 6 consultant paediatric neurologists (4.4 WTE) and will be an integral part of the vibrant and dynamic team providing tertiary paediatric neurology service and support to the 1.2 million children in East Anglia.

The paediatric neurology team at CUH offers the following tertiary paediatric services:o Epilepsy (including ketogenic diet and vagus nerve services)o Neuromuscularo Acquired brain injuryo IIH and complex headacheso Neuro immunology including paediatric MSo Other specialist services along with other teams - such as mitochondrial, neuro-oncology/ TS and congenital insensitivity to pain

There is a good level of consistent support from the Middle grade staff/ trainees in the paediatric neurology department which consist of 1 full-time neurology grid trainee, 1 LTFT neurology SPIN trainee, 1 LTFT academic clinical fellow, 1 PhD registrar and 2 SHOs. There are also several specialist nurses that support the consultants and the service (2 epilepsy nurses, 1 neurology nurse, 2 LTFT/ job share neuro muscular nurses, and 1 discharge planning nurse).

The paediatric neurology team supports 17 district general hospitals (DGHs) in the region providing outreach clinics to all of the hospitals and support via the on-call consultant and the patch consultant outside the on-call weeks.

The successful applicant will be required to take part in an on-call rota on a pro rata basis, along with the other consultants (currently 1:4). They will also be expected to deliver 40 half a day outpatient clinics per year and provide cover to two outreach centres (to discussed) by conducting 8 full day outreach clinics per year.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Paediatric neurology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
