Physicians in Prehospital Care inLondon inLondon PUBLISHED 22 AUG 2024

Our prehospital service is provided by Barts Health NHS Trust in partnership with the London’s Air Ambulance charity, and the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust. Our doctor-paramedic team responds to major trauma patients within the Greater London area, by helicopter during daylight hours and using rapid response cars during the hours of darkness. Our mission is to save more lives in London through rapid response and outstanding care, underpinned by our values and a high performing culture.

We are currently looking to recruit additional physicians that will train in Pre-Hospital Care, working as an essential part of the delivery of major trauma care across Greater London. Given the commitment of the service to diversifying its patient reach, applications will be welcomed from doctors with appropriate background skills in Emergency Medicine and Anaesthesia, but who have decided to pursue a structured programme targeted towards a specialty with an emergency focus, for example Trauma/Neurosurgery. We are looking to appoint to jobs starting in 2026, each for six months, with one new doctor starting each month.

Applications are welcome from Consultants and those trainees who will be ST6+ at the time of appointment and include:

  • Those wishing to develop a career in prehospital care, who have completed a CCT in prehospital emergency medicine but who would like to gain additional experience in the prehospital management of major trauma.
  • Those who are specialists / leaders in prehospital systems nationally / internationally but who would like to undertake a fellowship role in our service.
  • Consultants in London MTCs interested in developing an understanding of LAAs role and approach to the critically injured patient

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate, and support an inclusive working environment where staff treat one another with dignity and respect. We aim to create an equitable working environment where every individual can fulfil their potential.

Barts Health supports The Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.
