The Role


We are looking to recruit a Health Care Assistant to join the Medicine for Older Adults Ward at University Hospital Hairmyres!


The Health Care Assistant Will Carry Out


  • Assigned duties to maintain hygiene, order and safety within the ward/department environment
  • Routine personal care checks and assist with routine examination duties for patients, in support of (and supervised by), a registered nurse/clinician.

The successful candidate will also ensure a person centred approach to care delivery which is safe and effective to ensure and maintain quality strategy.


Dutie may vary with the type of ward/department and the degree of patient dependency.

What We'll Need You To Bring


  • Knowledge of personal care and related procedures or previous volunteer or work experience in a health, education or social environment.
  • Required to undertake on the job training and induction
  • Undertake mandatory HCSW standards
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment.
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology.


It Would Be Great If You Also Have


  • SVQ II in healthcare, or working towards
  • Previous experience working within a caring environment/role.
  • Previous experience as a support worker in an acute environment
  • Basic understanding of infection control
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to escalate appropriatel
  • Be able to undertake a variety of shifts which include days, evenings, nights, weekends, public holidays
  • Ability to rotate between different departments or sites when required
