It would be an advantage to have a good knowledge of the administrative processes in General Practice and have experience working on a clinical IT system.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The GP Assistant will support the doctors by:

Adding information to the patient record using appropriate clinical coding.

Contacting patients to obtain information, share information and book appointments.

Actioning computer tasks appropriately and in a timely manner.

Liaising with external organisations to obtain information.

Preparing and sending referrals, via the e-referral system.

Completing forms as much as possible, for scrutiny and signature by doctors.

Generating letters and electronic messages on behalf of GPs.

Requesting pathology on the ICE system.

The GP Assistant will also carry out the following clinical tasks when asked to do so by a GP:

Dip a urine sample

Take a blood pressure

Do an ECG

Take a blood sample


PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The GP Assistant will complete training on all areas within the Health Education England General Practice Assistant Competency Framework www.jobsincare.com/job/jDCjgx7I

To achieve this they will:

Undertake training on a variety of IT systems.

Develop a working knowledge of all admin processes within the practices.

Develop and maintain basic clinical skills.

Attend external training courses.

General Practice Assistants provide a supporting role to clinicians. They carry out administrative tasks and when necessary, some basic clinical duties, helping to free up GP's time and improving patients' experience. We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive trainee GP Assistant to join our friendly practices.

It would be an advantage to have a good knowledge of the administrative processes in General Practice and have experience working on a clinical IT system. This is a development role and training will be provided in accordance with the national competency framework.

You will need to have excellent organisational skills, good attention to detail and be able to communicate well.

Although the role is full-time, part-time applicants would be considered.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a commitment to working as part of a strong and effective team. We are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30 pm. You will be required to work shifts within these opening times and shifts that are rostered at least a month in advance.
