The Department of Histopathology is looking to appoint a Band 7 to undertake the role of Section Lead based at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust forms part of Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP. LLP is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (AGH), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BRI) and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT). This partnership delivers a high-quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users.
The UKAS accredited Histopathology department at AGH is responsible for the dissection and preparation of Histological Tissue and continues the care of these cases through processing, main laboratory, immuno histochemistry, and special stains. The department also provides a service for non- gynae cytology, Skin Immunofluorescence as well as the recent introduction of Digital Pathology.
The work of the department is enhanced by the input and engagement of Medical Laboratory Assistants, Biomedical Scientist, Specialist Biomedical Scientists as well as Expert Practioners and Consultant Healthcare Scientists.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day workings of the laboratory, including taking a lead on people management. They will liaise with other Senior Staff, Expert Practitioner in Dissection, Consultant Histopathologists and Biomedical Scientists to ensure that an effective worklflow is maintained. They will also be expected to liaise with the Cross Site Lead and the Section Managers on the other IPS sites to ensure effective staffing and workflow between sites.
The successful candidate should have completed a specialist portfolio or equivalent qualifications and be able to discuss good technical knowledge of histopathology. The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience of management and leadership and provide evidence of continuing progression of leadership skills.
The candidate should possess clear communication skills and be able to discuss a variety of organisational skills appropriate to the role.
