To provide leadership for education and workforce developments in conjunction with the CDO as required, in collaboration with Health Education England.
As a Deputy to the Chief Dental Officer, the post holder will lead and work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service across the OCDO to support the delivery of the objectives of the NHS Commissioning Board by providing expertise and professional leadership both to and from the dental community. The post holder will, as part of a broad leadership team, provide evidence-based advice and guidance to the NHS and the wider healthcare and social system. Working in collaboration, have an integrated approach with colleagues across the system, influence and advise to improve quality and outcomes for patients.

The post holder will have accountability and responsibility for the strategic and operational development of the Clinical Policy and Standards team in the OCDO.. Plans to achieve the strategy will be underpinned by the delivery of short to medium term objectives through the NHS Plan.


Key Aspects Of This Role Are


  • Provision of high quality evidence based professional advice to be followed by system leaders and external organisations on issues that are multi layered and complex
  • To provide leadership for the development of dental contracts, if required
  • To provide leadership for education and workforce developments in conjunction with the CDO as required, in collaboration with Health Education England
  • Ensure the strategy is formulated, understood by all stakeholders and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure the development and management of relevant strategic plans, within the Sector.
  • In conjunction with regional colleagues and LDN Chairs, ensure appropriate system and processes are in place to enable the implementation of the strategy in the new organisations for example Primary Care Networks and Integrated Care Systems.
  • Proactively manage the key risks and issues associated with ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.
  • Monitoring and establishing accountability on the overall progress of the strategy to ensure completion within agreed timescales.
  • Manage the whole budgetary implications of activity.
  • Avoid the destabilisation of business as usual.
  • Manage and actively promote the relationships with key stakeholders.
