Barnsley Hospital invites enthusiastic and capable doctors at Foundation level to apply for this Locally Employed Doctor post in our Trauma and Orthopaedics department. This post is available for a fixed term period of 12 months.


Main duties of the job



The Post Holder Will Be Required To


Clerking all admissions to the ward.

Assessment for, and prescribing of, VTE prophylaxis

Organisation of investigations of patients on the Medical Wards.

Daily management of patients and ward rounds under the direction of the Registrar or Consultant.

Helping in completion of discharge paperwork (D1s) for patients

Assisting in Medical Procedures

Venepuncture

IV cannulation

Prepare and administer IV medications and injections

Arterial puncture in an adult

Blood culture from peripheral sites

Intravenous infusion including the prescription of fluids

Intravenous infusion of blood and blood products

Injection of local anaesthetic to skin

Injection subcutaneous (eg insulin or LMW heparin)

Injection intramuscular

Perform and interpret an ECG

Perform and interpret peak flow

Urethral catheterisation (male)

Urethral catheterisation (female)

Airway care including simple adjuncts (eg Guedel airway or laryngeal masks).

The hours of work are expected to be 8am 5pm on standard days. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in the General Surgery FY1 on call rota.

  • Applicants have undertaken their entire undergraduate medical training in English or have attained the minimum International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) score.
