Do you want to make a difference to people’s lives? Do you enjoy working as part of a team?
If so we are looking for individuals with or without experience to work in healthcare, to join our busy Major Trauma Centre (Emergency Department) helping people from your local community.
We will teach you everything you need to know by providing a structure programme in the first few months of starting with us at UHSx. To us, it is more important that you are a caring and kind person with a genuine desire to help and support patients and their families. If this sounds like you, then you already have the skills that make a great Health Care Support Worker.

As a Health Care Support Worker, you will be supporting our registered nurses with the initial assessment of patients on arrival including investigations and initial care needs. You will also support patients with their personal needs including washing and toileting, serving meals and feeding patients, helping patients to move around, making trollies, talking to patients and their families and monitoring the patient’s condition. You will be a hugely valuable support to our Nursing teams providing care to our patients. Every day will be different and you will work alongside the rest of the team carrying out a wide range of tasks and assisting with care to support the needs of the patients and their families.
The role can also lead to a range of career opportunities. With the right support, those who want to can undertake the necessary training to become our future Nursing Associates and Registered Nurses.
We will provide the substantive successful candidates with a trust induction, 1 week “Prepare to Care Induction” and additional support to those new to health care. You will also have 2 weeks supernumerary period in the ward after you induction. We would like to ensure that we give the best quality care for our patients and the right support for you.
At UHSussex, diversity is our strength, and we want you to feel included to help us always put the Patient First, as shown in our Outstanding for Caring CQC rating. Your uniqueness and experiences will be part of our creative and innovative community where everyone is encouraged to succeed. We have a range of Staff Networks to help break down barriers, and can offer a buddy to help new members settle in. We’re proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.
We treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves. We’re here for them when they need us, and we go above and beyond to meet their needs. This can be seen in our Wellbeing Programme for staff which is extensive and designed to support you when you need it - because we know that to look after others we must first look after ourselves. As a university trust and a leader in healthcare research, we value learning, teaching and training so that we can be the best that we can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. We hope that in choosing UHSussex you are choosing a long and happy career where you will be able to see the difference you make and feel valued for all that you do.
We look forward to receiving your application and the start of your journey with UHSussex.
