Band Consultant: £93,666 to £126,281 a year per annum  PERMANENT 

  • Provide general and specialist outpatient clinics.
  • Review patients on the ward and participate in local rota.
  • Work closely with the community neurological specialists in MS, stroke, epilepsy, Parkinsons disease, head injury and MND.
  • Provide consultant annual and study leave cover.
  • Responsible for training and supervision of StRs who work with them and will devote time to this activity on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for carrying out teaching, as requested by the UBMS Tutor. This will involve contributing to and participating in undergraduate teaching and continuing to keep updated in medical education activities.
  • All medical staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with regional and appropriate hospital health and safety policies.
  • The post holder is expected to undergo an annual appraisal as a contractual obligation.

As a Neurology consultant here at MKUH you will be providing a range of outpatient services with the potential to develop or run specialist clinics of interest. In addition, the post will carry out inpatient reviews, support with training and teaching and aid the development of the wider Neurology service. Here at MKUH we work very closely with Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and this post will be able to attend weekly MDTs with OUH (dependent upon specialist interests) and build on the strong links already in place with our tertiary centre. The Neurology consultants attend and participate in the weekly regional Neuroscience Grand Round held at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

The post holder will:

Support with service developments and improvements to allow the service to continue to grow and meet the needs of the growing local population.

Support and ensure Governance within the service to ensure patient safety is maintained and incidents are raised early and investigated properly.

Build strong working relationships with fellow consultants, operations managers, patient pathway coordinators and other teams across the Trust.

Uphold the MKUH values; Care, Communicate, Collaborate and Contribute.

Maintain a high standard of work and look to continuously improve their practice to ensure patient safety and experience.

The post holder must:

Be on the specialist register for Neurology; eligible for entry on the register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of the interview.

Minimum 7 years post graduate experience including higher medical training - 4 years as specialist / specialty registrar.
