Oxford Critical care is an expanding, dynamic service committed to delivery of outstanding clinical care.


Clinical Service.

Adult critical care services are provided by the Oxford University Hospitals Trust at the John University Hospital site (General, Neurosciences and Cardiac) and the Churchill Hospital site (General, Transplant, Haematology). This post is for a consultant to work in the General Critical Care service at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals, providing direct care of admissions, leading ward rounds and consultations on critically ill inpatients on wards and the emergency department.

TheGeneral Critical Care Service currently consists of a 26 bedded unit at the John Radcliffe site (of which 22 beds are routinely open) and an 8 bedded unit at the Churchill site. At the John Radcliffe the service is split over 2 floors a 10 bedded floor and a second floor with 16 physical bed spaces with up to 12 in use at any time. The service is currently expanding and key to this is the Consultant led referral service which runs Monday to Friday with a plan to extend this to 7 days a week. It is the ambition of the service to take part in a comprehensive Outreach service.

Consultant in Critical Care Medicine with an interest in Medical Informatics- (1 Post)

A whole-time/part-time post as consultant in Critical Care Medicine (CCM) is available now at the John Radcliffe Hospital. This is a substantive post.

The appointment is on a whole-time/part-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

Candidates are highly recommended to visit the department and hospital and are invited to contact Peyton Davis, Clinical Director of the Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Preoperative Assessment, Pain Management and Resuscitation (CAPR) Directorate, and the Clinical Lead, Dr Elaine Armstrong ), Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The John Radcliffe Hospital.

Any person who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis, in consultation with consultant colleagues. Suitably qualified job-share candidates will receive serious consideration.

As part of the forward facing, digital strategy this post is for a consultant with an interest in medical informatics who will have an integral role in creating a modern, future focused Critical care service and supporting data led quality improvement.

It will suit a highly motivated individual who is, foremost, an excellent clinician, that seeks to develop the service information technology, has experience in digital transformation and of managing healthcare data.

The post holder will join a team of 20 Substantive consultants. They will work alongside the service ICCA lead, current IT lead and audit and research team. They will liaise with the trust digital team to ensure optimal trust wide integration of new development
