An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Dental Officer to join our Public Dental Service (PDS) based in the Dental Clinic, Lorn and Islands Hospital, Oban
This is a senior clinical position which concentrates on delivery of patient-centred clinical dental care for the various priority groups which fall within the remit of the PDS, including domiciliary dental care and sedation.
We would hope to support the successful individual in developing experience in areas of clinical interest within the Service. In addition, you will have the support of dedicated and highly qualified dental nurses and will work in modern dental surgeries with networked clinical software facilities
Experience of providing treatment to patients in described priority groups is desirable. Considerable experience of providing routine general dental services is essential, and it is anticipated that the successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be resilient in challenging situations.
GDC registration as a dentist, evidence of participation in postgraduate dental education and successful listing with the Health Board is also required.
As all Dentists are required to join the NHS Highland Dental List, all non UK, EEA nationals will now be required to provide evidence of their knowledge of the English language. NHS Highland has determined this as overall band score of 7 with no section lower than 6.5. from the International English Language Test System.
A driving licence is essential for this role.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
