Competent in performing bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound sampling.
You will be part of a six Consultant Respiratory Medicine team with an interest in Acute Care, Interventional Respiratory Medicine and Medical Education. You will be responsible for inpatient and outpatient care of Respiratory and General Medical patients. You will have responsibility for a quarter of the Respiratory bed base of 58 beds across two wards with 8 non-HDU NIV beds and will cross cover your colleagues as and when required. Non-elective activity including clinics will be shared within the six Consultant team, one senior associate specialist and two Senior Specialty Doctors.
You will be part of the general Medical on call at 1 in 24 frequency. The wider Respiratory team is supported by a team of 12 juniors, 8 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 1 Physiotherapist, and 5 respiratory Physiologists. There is a dedicated visiting Thoracic Surgeon from Harefied Hospital, Oncology and Palliative Care support based locally and excellent links for tertiary care with the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals as well as Oxford University Hospitals.
You will have the opportunity to develop an interest in lung cancer, thoracoscopy, endo-bronchial ultrasound, as well as introduce new interventional procedures with the long plan of introducing navigational bronchoscopy. We have a mature sleep service and also initiate domiciliary non-invasive ventilation with support from the home ventilation team in Oxford and the Royal Brompton.
The Post Holder Will
- Support with service developments and improvements to allow the service to continue to grow and meet the needs of the growing local population.
- Support and ensure Governance within the service to ensure patient safety is maintained and incidents are raised early and investigated properly.
- Build strong working relationships with fellow consultants, operations managers, patient pathway coordinators and other teams across the Trust.
- Uphold the MKUH values; Care, Communicate, Collaborate and Contribute.
- Maintain a high standard of work and look to continuously improve their practice to ensure patient safety and experience.
The Post Holder Must
- Be on the specialist register for Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine; eligible for entry on the register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of the interview.
- Minimum 7 years post graduate experience including higher medical training – 4 years as specialist / specialty registrar.
- Competent and certified in thoracic ultrasound, competent in pleural procedures ( thoracoscopy competence will be an advantage)
- Competent in performing bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound sampling
- Any additional interventional skills will be considered as highly desirable
- Experience of research is desirable and the willingness to participate in research activity
