Position : Care Home Chef
Salary : £31,590
Location : York
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals for residents, catering to a variety of dietary needs, including allergies, diabetes, and other health conditions.
Create meal plans that reflect the preferences and nutritional requirements of the residents while complying with health regulations.
Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a high standard, maintaining quality and consistency across all meals.
Work closely with care home staff to adjust menus based on individual dietary assessments and resident feedback.
Manage stock levels, place orders for fresh ingredients, and ensure timely delivery of supplies.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment in compliance with food hygiene regulations.
Oversee the kitchen staff, ensuring proper training, support, and motivation.
Keep up to date with relevant food safety laws, ensuring that all policies and procedures are strictly followed.
Monitor portion control and reduce food waste where possible to ensure cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
Previous experience as a chef, preferably within a care home, healthcare, or similar setting.
Strong understanding of dietary requirements, especially for elderly and vulnerable individuals.
A valid food hygiene certificate (Level 2 or higher preferred).
Knowledge of health and safety regulations in food preparation and kitchen operations.
Ability to manage kitchen operations independently, including staff and inventory management.
Compassionate and patient approach, with a commitment to providing high-quality meals to enhance resident well-being.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to handle changing resident needs.
