Band 7 - Lead Clinical Services Pharmacy Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled, innovative and enthusiastic senior clinical technician to join our Pharmacy Clinical Services Team.

The Pharmacy department within West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is located on two sites and has over 100 staff, with the main Pharmacy department based at Watford General Hospital.

The department provides a stimulating, friendly and professionally rewarding environment for staff to develop their clinical expertise.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required:

o To Line manage all clinical technicians and ensure adequate cover is provided on all wards.

o To support manager in planning, organisation and developing the medicines optimisation services on wards

o To implement, maintain and participate in medicines optimisation initiatives. This includes: medicines reconciliation, storage of medicines in patients' bedside lockers, use of patients own drugs, ensure sufficient supply of medicines and counsel patients

o To lead and participate in the development of near patient dispensing services within the Trust to provide an efficient discharge process

o To lead and deliver training and assessing competencies of clinical pharmacy technicians, rotational technicians and other health care professionals in the medicines optimisation process

o To develop policies and procedures in area of responsibility

o To initiate and undertake audits in liaison with senior clinical pharmacists

o To act as an accredited final checker in the dispensary and on wards
