Job Purpose:

To ensure that the reception area of the Practice runs smoothly, provides a high level of service to patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the Practice team

Duties and Responsibilities

Telephone Duties

1.

Making appointments

2.

Taking requests for prescriptions

3.

Giving out results

4.

Ambulance transport bookings

5.

Home visit requests

6.

Deal with general enquiries and complaints

7.

Contacting other providers

Reception Duties

8.

Register new patients and temporary residents

9.

Greet and direct patients and visitors

10.

Making appointments

11.

Handing out prescriptions

12.

Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to next shift, as necessary

13.

Respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery

14.

Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services

15.

Deal with general enquiries and complaints

Prescribing

16.

Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions

17.

Raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols

18.

Dealing with queries relating to repeat prescriptions

General

19.

Input and extract information from Practice computer system

20.

Observe health and safety guidelines at all times

21.

General housekeeping (e.g. keeping reception and waiting areas tidy)

22.

Make refreshments for doctors and other team members, participate in washing up

23.

Any other reasonable duties as necessary

Job summary

Church Road Surgery, based in Aston, Birmingham, is looking for a part time medical receptionist/administrators. The hours are to be worked over five days, however, flexibility is required to cover in the absence of the team.

This role is an addition to our existing team.

General practice experience is preferred, however not essential as full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The main duties are to answer calls, book appointments, prepare prescriptions and input documents.

You will need to be a good communicator, fluent in English, written and spoken, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; especially under pressure. You will have a range of patient facing and administrative tasks, so excellent organisational skills and time management are critical. A caring, empathetic character is essential.
