The post holder will combine pharmaceuticalexpertise and technical skills to support the delivery of a patient-centred medicines optimisation agenda, through:
- Support high quality, evidence based, cost effective prescribing by registered primary care clinicians working within GP practices.
- Work across the ICB on projects and initiatives as required and promote awareness of medicines optimisation issues.
- Utilise, analyse and interpret data (including prescribing data) and informatics systems to assist Medicines Management and Optimisation team members to formulate locally delivered action plans with the Medicines Technician / Prescribing Support Pharmacist.
- Work across the ICB on projects and initiatives as required and promoting awareness of medicines optimisation issues
- Mobile working between GP practices and the ICB offices to deliver MMO services.

NHS Birmingham and Solihull has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic pharmacy technician to join the Medicines Management and Optimisation (MMO) Team.
The post holder will be working within allocated GP practices to support the implementation of the MMO strategy. Highly regarded by the organisation and GP practices, you will be an integral member of the MMO Team supporting the delivery of Medicines Optimisation initiatives that improve care and tackle health inequalities. The post offers an excellent opportunity for a candidate to further develop their insight into primary care and broaden their experience within different healthcare settings.
Although there is an expectation that the successful candidate will be able to travel across the geography of Birmingham and Solihull, where required, the MMO Team work in six locality teams. Preference for alignment of locality will be discussed during the recruitment process.
The MMO team have core operational hours between 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday; team members will work their agreed hours during this time. The ICB promotes flexible and agile (practice locations or office base) working as a commitment to equality and making staff feel valued.
The post offers an excellent opportunity for a candidate to further develop their insight into primary care and broaden their experience within different healthcare settings. This post can also be suitable for those newly qualified as a pharmacy technician.
The Medicines Management and Optimisation Team is a large, dynamic, and innovative team, providing expert pharmaceutical advice to GPs and other primary care clinicians.
As a Medicines Support Technician you will be joining an innovative team helping to implement the ICS (Integrated Care System) strategy of improving care for people living in the Birmingham and Solihull footprint.
Your responsibilities will include supporting the audit of repeat medication systems, promoting high quality, evidence based, cost effective prescribing and reviewing areas where there is potential for reducing medicines waste. You will support the analysis and interpretation of data to assist Medicines Management and Optimisation team members to formulate locally delivered action plans.
As a member of the MMO Team, patients will be at the heart of everything you do - you will be joining a team dedicated to delivering high quality care and tackling health inequalities
