Role purpose and overview

  • A key member of the health features team your role will be to commission and edit health guides and ensuring they are authoritative, engaging, accurate and optimised for search
  • This is a senior commissioning role you will need to have a strong understanding of search optimisation and how to grow the Telegraph's audience by using it effectively.
  • You will need to be confident in digital publishing and able to edit and publish within the CMS
  • A digital native your role will be to publish smart digital features and guides, assisting in the commissioning of eye-catching lead assets, graphics and video that set your stories apart on the app and on the website.
  • You'll also liaise with designers/picture editors/visual storytelling and social departments to ensure that all content is produced to the highest standard.

Key responsibilities

  • Commission and edit evergreen content, along with innovative and intelligent visual leads, video and graphics that enhance digital storytelling
  • Write clear briefs for every piece of content for both writers and visual editors
  • Work closely with SEO to ensure every guide is optimised effectively
  • Ensure all guide content is organised and updated regularly
  • Edit copy to the highest possible standard
  • Edit and update guides within the CMS during the production process
  • Forge strong relationships with new and existing writers.
  • Attend conferences and meetings with editors, and writers pitch and discuss ideas.

Essential vs desirable skills required for the role

  • Experience commissioning strong SEO focussed utility features
  • Excellent understanding of SEO
  • A background in digital publishing and CMS is extremely important
  • Ability to work across a wide range of content and making sure it's delivered on time and to an excellent standard
  • Commissioning feature writers with detailed digital-friendly briefs
  • An understanding of analytics tools and how to use them when commissioning and briefing stories
  • Ability to respond quickly and accurately to create premium quality journalism
