The Vacancy
Job Purpose:
To support and plan the maintenance of ASDA Stores Ltd. Fire & Security infrastructure to the Company Standards in a cost effective and efficient way. Analysing and evaluating current equipment and systems to ensure fitness for purpose and that they remain serviceable. Working with the PRC to ensure that redundant, updated otherwise obsolete equipment can be refurbished to keep other stores equipment in service. Supporting the National Manager to ensure that equipment, infrastructure and maintenance needs support the operational team to secure people and property working in and visiting ASDA Stores.
Key Accountabilities: Operations Manager
- To be the first point of contact for Supervisors and Technicians for system related queries and escalations
- To liaise with stores when problems arise and recommend solutions in conjunction with head of department
- To highlight deficiencies in service we are providing to stores to Head of Department and recommend improvements.
- To be a source of first line technical support for field engineers on all products and to recommend fixes that can be carried out in the field in conjunction with workshop personnel.
- Assess new equipment installed and recommend training courses if required for Technicians.
- Accountable for their own KPI delivery for all disciplines covered and maintained by Fire & Security team.
- To respond promptly to service call requests from the Helpdesk during normal hours and when on call. For avoidance of doubt, out of hours will be referred to the specialist in the first instance.
- To identify non-repairable faults in equipment and propose corrective course of action.
- Assist the National manager to develop and build annual Business Plan submissions for the customer's annual asset replacement programme.
- To order parts where required in line with Company Procedures, ensure prompt fitment on delivery and chase any outstanding parts not delivered within 5 days.
- To fully complete all paperwork required by the Company to measure performance of service and undertake surveys as requested.
- To support the National Specialist Services Manager on all technical, people, fire and security process issues.
- To provide cover for National Specialist Services Manager during times of absence, holidays and meetings.
- To complete specified reports as required and take action on any issues raised.
- To audit Fire and Security documentation and take action on any non-compliances.
- To deal promptly with all Help Desk calls and ensure that the issues are resolved effectively, escalating where necessary to the appropriate management level in City and ASDA.
- Co-ordinate and monitor SITC / TITC audits to schedule.
- Carry out and monitor individual coaching sessions with Supervisors and Technicians.
Financial Responsibility:
- To carry out work in the most cost-efficient manner.
- Discipline budget control whilst covering for National Specialist Services Manager.
- No direct budgetary accountability.
People Responsibility
Direct reports - F&S Supervisors.
Responsible for coaching and development of the Supervisors and Champion roles.
To represent the company in a professional manner always and develop a good working relationships with the Technicians, PRC Department, Supervisors, Technical Operations Manager and Head of Department

Professional/Academic/ Vocational Qualifications
- Electrical Competency Qualification (NVQ / City & Guilds)

Specific Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge on IP CCTV & Fire systems
- High degree of flexibility in working hours and types of jobs undertaken.
- High degree of mobility - travelling throughout the country.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Advanced IT skills
- Previous Supervisory/Technical Experience
- Microsoft office applications
- Experience in Fire and security systems commissioning.
- Experience of IP network infrastructure and maintenance
- Knowledge of Inert or Suppression systems

- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
