Possessing an understanding of how emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties can present in children and young people.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Mental Health Worker to an inpatient positive behaviour support (PBS) service.
The service supports children and young people who are admitted to the acute hospital for reasons relating to their mental health, behaviour or social circumstances.
The post holder will possess a professional or degree level qualification in either Psychology, Social Care, Nursing or a Counselling/Therapeutic Discipline. Prior experience of working with children and young people with mental health problems is essential.
The candidate will need to demonstrate excellent abilities in multi-agency liaison and communication and this should include knowledge of community pathways and systems, and appropriate admission avoidance services as well as the admission pathway for specialist in-patient mental health beds.
- Adopting a person-centered approach to the holistic assessment of children and their families;
- Tailoring individually designed support, using least restrictive interventions.
- Possessing an understanding of how emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties can present in children and young people
- The use of person-centered thinking tools to inform care planning and the assessment of risk.
- Embedding a culture of positive behaviour support throughout the Paediatric Division to enhance the quality of life of children and young people in acute distress;
- Integrating new processes into existing services and working closely with partner agencies and services.
- Support the planning and delivering of PBS training within a structure for staff support and wellbeing;
- Helping others to maintain excellent standards of care and evidence-based service delivery at a time of transformation of mental health services.
- As discharge planning should always begin from the point of admission, the post holder will need to assist the Clinical Lead in immediate and future care planning for young people and be able to think about what support would meet their needs outside of the acute hospital
