Job Title: Medical Receptionist
Responsible to: Crewe Medical Centre Partners
Line Manager: Reception Manager
About: The Medical Receptionists at Crewe Medical Centre provide a high quality, professional reception and administrative service to patients, practice staff, and other healthcare professionals. You will be the first point of contact for our patients and will offer an excellent standard of care. The role of a Medical Receptionist is varied and challenging, and requires the ability to work efficiently and accurately to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Providing an effective and welcoming reception presence
- Dealing with telephone calls efficiently and courteously
- Taking messages accurately and passing to the appropriate person
- Dealing with requests for appointments and ensuring patients are booked in with the most appropriate person
- Sign-posting patients to other services (e.g. local pharmacy) where appropriate
- Managing requests for house calls
- Arranging interpreters when required
- Greeting patients on arrival and ensuring they are checked in for their appointment
- Answering queries and explaining practice procedures
- Registering new and temporary patients
- Accurately issuing repeat prescriptions and ensuring that prescriptions are sent to the correct pharmacy
- Dealing with requests for test results and liaising with clinical staff when necessary
- Liaising with other health professionals such as district nurses, hospital staff or social workers
- Organising patient transport or ambulances when required
- Opening and distributing paper mail
- Scanning and filing documents to the medical records
- Processing lab results
- Checking clinical email and forwarding messages to the appropriate person and/or saving messages in the patient’s medical record
- Understanding rules relating to patient confidentiality and ensuring these are applied at all times
- General administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, faxing
- Attending staff meetings and training sessions
- Ensuring that waiting areas are kept tidy and that posters and leaflets are up to date
