Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking motivated doctors to join the Paediatric Emergency Department at St Mary’s Hospital, a Major Trauma Centre in London. The role is ideal for trainees looking to enhance their skills in managing acutely ill or injured children, with a focus on those interested in paediatrics or emergency medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial assessments and treatments for children in the Emergency Department.
- Gain experience in the resuscitation of critically ill and injured children.
- Participate in quality improvement projects to enhance patient care.
Qualifications:
- Completed foundation training.
- Interest in paediatrics or emergency medicine; experience in these fields is desirable but not mandatory.
- A minimum of one year of paid experience in the NHS (observer positions not eligible).

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated doctors to join our team in the Paediatric Emergency Department at St Mary’s Hospital. This job is ideal for trainees who wish to gain confidence and competencies in the assessment and management of acutely ill and injured children, and who are considering training in paediatrics or emergency medicine.
St Mary’s Hospital is a busy Major Trauma Centre in London, and has a range of paediatric medical and surgical specialities, including PID, Haematology, Neurology, Allergy, Renal and PICU. It is one of the key trusts in the North London Paediatric Specialist Network, and an internationally respected academic and research unit. The department is staffed by dedicated paediatric nurses and led by a team of PEM consultants. Trainees come from both paediatric and emergency medicine backgrounds on a 2-tier rota.
We are looking for dedicated doctors who have completed their foundation training, and have a real interest in Paediatrics or Emergency Medicine. Experience in Paediatrics or Emergency Medicine is desirable, although we will consider suitable candidates without.
Candidates must have had at least 1 year experience of paid working in the NHS in the UK (“observer ships” do not count).
The post will have some protected time to participate in Quality Improvement or Educational projects, and we have consultants with key interests in Research, Simulation and Quality Improvement.
Doctors, under the supervision of the consultant and senior trainees, will see all varieties of presentations (medical and trauma), to gain experience in all aspects of emergency care in children. We are supported by the inpatient paediatric team, as well as the paediatric and surgical specialties.
Key areas of responsibilities;
We encourage staff to have the Covid vaccination to protect themselves, patients, other colleagues as well as the wider community. Please note it is an operational requirement to comply with infection prevention and control procedures within the Trust such as lateral flow testing, handwashing and the wearing of masks, according to the procedures in place at any time or location. As part of our continued response to Covid19 we are still conducting the majority of our interviews virtually.
