Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Trust Grade Doctor at the ST1/2 level in the Department of General Medicine, starting as soon as possible. This position is not part of an approved training program but offers various developmental support, including:
- Named educational supervisor
- Induction program and bespoke training opportunities
- Personalized training plan and access to NHS e-portfolio
- Six-month appraisal and support for achieving foundation competencies
Key responsibilities include participating in daily ward rounds, preparing patients for consultant rounds, making referrals, conducting medical clerking, writing discharge summaries, responding to medical emergencies, engaging in departmental teaching and audits, updating families on patient conditions, supervising medical students, and assisting registrars in procedures.
The Trust is a busy 849-bed District General Hospital and includes a regional Cardiothoracic Centre, with active postgraduate training programs, MRCP teaching, and established resuscitation training. For further information or informal visits, contact Nazarulla Syed, GIM HOD.

- Induction and bespoke new starter induction pack outlining internal training courses/opportunities available to doctors in these non-approved training positions
- Individual training plan
- NHS e-portfolio
- Appraisal at 6 months and individual access to e-appraisal system
- Support towards obtaining Alternative Certificate confirming achievement of foundation competencies to aid those who want to access a recognised training position in the future.
- To participate in daily ward rounds with the team, prepare patients for consultant ward round.
- Support the Consultant by carrying out his instructions in a timely manner.
- Make referrals to different specialities and chase them.
- Medical clerking of the patient when required and formulating initial plan with the help of registrar
- Making discharge summaries for the patients
- Attending medical emergencies in ward.
- Participating in departmental teaching and audits.
- Keeping nursing staff informed about management of patients and checking progress.
- Updating families regarding patient’s condition on regular basis.
