The role of Doctors Assistant in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Eastbourne Hospital involves supporting doctors by taking on routine tasks that can be delegated, such as conducting clinical procedures, managing paperwork, filing results, and communicating with patients and their families. This Band 3 position is aimed at individuals with a Healthcare Assistant background who are motivated, adaptable, and possess strong writing, computer, and communication skills. The goal is to alleviate the increasing workload on junior doctors, thereby allowing them to focus on more complex patient care.

This is a Band 3 role open to staff from a Healthcare Assistant background. This will allow medical staff to concentrate on more complex patient care. The role will be based on the wards, principally helping the junior doctors with their work. National audits indicate that Junior Doctors have an increasing workload with a lot of both clinical and administrative duties that could be undertaken by other clinical support staff.
To support the work load we are looking for established and dynamic individuals from a clinical support background to undertake these roles. Applicants should be keen, adaptable, and able to think on their feet, and possess good writing, computer and communication skills. Applicants should also be willing to accept the challenge of a new role whilst being aware of patient safety and the limits of their own competence.
