The Post


Delivering direct care to donors throughout the donation process of blood and blood products, ensuring the donor's continued support through a high level of clinical/customer care. Working to agreed clinical and quality standards and procedures using accurate data input to safeguard donor and patient safety.

The post holder will be responsible for the safe transportation of staff and equipment to various geographical locations for the purpose of mobile donating sessions. This post involves set up of community donation sessions with a requirement to pull/push cages or trolleys of equipment without mechanical aid of up to 60kg 2 people. The post also involves performing and monitor venepunctures to obtain donations and samples in accordance with nationally approved procedures. Full training is provided in all aspects of the role.


The Candidate


We are looking for a donor carer driver to join our existing team of staff who provide a high standard of care to our donors. You should be friendly, enjoy meeting people and be willing to work as part of a team. In addition to providing a high standard of care to our donors you would be expected to transport staff and equipment to sessions. Although based in Glasgow you must have a sound knowledge of the geography of the region as extensive travel throughout the region is required.

You must be flexible, and willing to work variable hours. Hours will include Sundays and regular late evenings.

A ‘C’ licence (for a goods vehicle in excess of 7.5 tonnes) with current and valid CPC is required.

Applicants should note that Driving a HGV is a only part of the role, the majority of weekly hours is made up by performing donor carer duties (assisting donor’s and performing collection duties).

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.


Location and Working Pattern:


The position is based in Glasgow and the West of Scotland with extensive travel throughout the region.

Monday Sunday variable shifts including weekends and evenings.

25 hours per week.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
