Job Overview


The post holder is primarily responsible for:

  • Carrying out a variety of professional porter and postal delivery services in a responsive and proactive manner on behalf of QTS, including throughout the portfolio of Central North West London Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust sites.

Main duties of the job

  • Organising their daily workload to complete the tasks in the given priorities, whilst meeting all quality standards and compliance requirements.   
  • Actively role-modelling the behaviours that reflect the values of QTS.
  • Ensuring confidentiality at all times, only releasing information obtained during employment, to those acting in an official capacity or within the parameters of QTS People Policies.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities



Operational


  • Providing a responsive, flexible porter and delivery service which maintains the professional reputation of QTS.
  • Carrying out planned and urgent porter / post and delivery services, as well as any other work as assigned by the Logistics Officer.
  • Efficiently route planning of multiple deliveries to various locations to ensure the provision of a timely and cost-effective service.
  • Assisting with the delivery of stock / consumables to Trust departments as and when required.
  • Assisting with office moves, collecting and either disposing of or storing as appropriate, surplus/obsolete furniture or equipment and general rubbish.
  • Receiving, collecting or transporting supplies, stores and equipment as required.
  • Carrying out duties without the need for direct supervision.
  • Safely and securely transferring any post / medical and corporate records, adhering to the Data Protection Act and Caldicott guidelines at all times.
  • Fully adhering to manual handling and infection control procedures.
  • Reporting any accidents, adverse incidents, breakdowns and defects to a vehicle or equipment by informing the Logistics Officer immediately and completing relevant documentation.
  • Maintaining both the internal and external cleanliness of the provided vehicle to a high standard, reflective of the professional image and reputation of QTS. Washing and refuelling the vehicle at the end of shift as required.
  • Responsible for driving in a professional manner with due regard for the safety of all road users & equipment.
  • Ensuring all portering activities positively meet the needs of our clients and service users, reflect best practice and are provided by means of appropriate equipment with due regard to Health & Safety.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties associated with the department that may be assigned by the Logistics Officer.


Health & Safety, Risk & Compliance


  • Ensuring all activity is compliant to applicable procedures, QTS governance and best practice.
  • Raising areas of concern or non-compliance immediately with line manager.
  • Carrying out all driving duties in compliance with the Highway Code and Road Traffic Acts.
  • Responsible for attending any training courses that are deemed necessary to fulfil the requirements of the post.
  • Carrying out daily Vehicle Defect Inspections on the vehicle being used.
  • Reporting and ensuring rectification of any found faults or vehicle damage.


Communication and Relationships


  • Establishing professional and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including colleagues, clinical teams, service users and visitors.
  • Communicating to the Estates & Facilities team, any identified defects.
  • Demonstrating best practice customer service at all times.
  • Role modelling empathy, sensitivity and confidentiality at all times.

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria

  • Must hold a full and valid UK driving license, with a maximum of 3 points.
  • Numerate and with a good general standard and comprehension of English in written and verbal format.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working within the NHS or caring environment in a service provision capacity.
  • Substantial work-based driving experience.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements
  • Experience of moving and handling of large items

  • Able to evidence high levels of self-motivation and an ability to work independently, while remaining within a team structure and retaining a team outlook.
  • Ability to work well under limited supervision.
