An amazing opportunity has arisen to join our Skin Surgery Specialist Nurse team within our Dermatology Department.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and inspiring team member to work in a specialist area of nursing, with full training provided. The Dermatology Skin Surgery Specialist Nurse team provide a daily skin surgery service to people with potential skin cancers and/or a dermatology disease. The service runs across York, Scarborough and Selby, you may be required to cover these services based on service requirement.
We are an outpatients department, open Monday to Friday, we will require you to work flexibly to accommodate the needs of the patients and the department.
The role will consist of working within the Dermatology department across all sites (York, Scarborough and Selby) to ensure that high quality, safe and consistent care is given to dermatology patients. Part of the role involves supervising student nurses and junior staff.
Support will be given for any further training that is required as part of the role.
You will have experience in wound care management and have a good ability to work on your own initiative. You will be able to provide clinical knowledge and expertise to your team, whilst co-ordinating and delivering high quality care.
This role requires you to be assertive, flexible, resilient, forward thinking and ready to develop your surgical skills in an outpatient setting.
The Main Core Duties Of The Role Are
- Performing a daily skin surgery service with suspected cancer or taking biopsies for diagnostic purposes
- Prioritising and escalating patient care according to information from clinical team, being aware of each patients pathway and ensuring these comply with the current Trust policies and Government waiting times
- Being the first point of contact to patients with wounds that may require assessment, monitoring and direct wound care / advice.
- Attend and participate in Dermatology MDT
- Attend service improvement meetings with the Sister/Operational Service Manager
- Working within a team to update current audit practice for service requirement
