This is an exciting opportunity to join the ENT team at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust as a ST1-ST2 Trust Doctor. The department consists of Eleven ENT consultants who cover all areas of ENT and is the only recognised head and neck cancer centre in Kent. The department and trust are expanding in conjunction with new Kent and Medway Medical School. The main department including a specialist ward, inpatients, outpatient, emergency care and the head & neck centre is based at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford while Kent and Canterbury hospital (KCH) provides a large number of outpatient clinics, day & 23-hour surgery and robotic head and neck surgery. We also provide a clinic at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother (QEQM) Hospital in Margate.
As an ST1-ST2 you will be a key member of the ENT team at the William Harvey Hospital. The role is well supported by our middle grade doctors, specialist nurse practitioners and on-call consultants. As part of the
team responsibilities include on-call duties (ENT only during the day with Maxillofacial cross cover at night) and the management of acute emergencies and referrals to the department. At times you will be expected to manage the ward and participate in the ENT emergency clinic which runs every morning with direct supervision and support from middle grade doctors and on-call consultants. There is ample time to attend theatre and outpatient clinics to further your own learning and development in ENT and the trainee feedback and both ST1 and registrar level is always outstanding. The role will provide any aspiring trainees
with an interest in ENT a fantastic opportunity to develop their clinical skills and knowledge for future posts or training.
On-call responsibilities include taking calls from A&E’s, GP’s, minor injury centres and ward referrals including KCH and QEQM. These referrals need to be triaged into those that need immediate review and
management, which you will be expected to arrange and perform before organising on-going care or escalating as necessary. Alternatively, patients can be booked into the emergency clinic or on-site reviews in
other hospitals co-ordinated with other members of the team.
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five
hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’.
We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.
We’re on an exciting journey of transformation. With a new Medical School at the centre of our community, a focus on research, clinical leadership and making our trust a rewarding and friendly place to work, there’s never been a better time to join us.
