The role of Occupational Therapist at Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber Foundation Trust in Scunthorpe involves delivering evidence-based assessments and interventions for individuals with complex mental health needs, both individually and in group settings. The therapist will be integral to the adult inpatient multidisciplinary team, providing expertise for case formulations, therapy planning, and facilitating effective discharges. Responsibilities include supervising support staff, developing interventions to enhance independent living skills, and establishing connections with community resources to support service users’ ongoing needs.
The position emphasises clinical excellence through the evaluation of activities and individual care programs, as well as leading the development of inpatient group activities based on current best practices. Additional duties involve assessing and recommending aids or adaptations for service users to foster independence, ensuring thorough documentation in accordance with professional standards, and promoting service user and carer involvement in care processes. - To demonstrate excellence in clinical practice through assessment, treatment and evaluation of group activities and individual programmes of care.
- To take a lead in the development of a programme of inpatient group activities in line with current evidence based occupational therapy practice.
- To supervise support staff in implementing group and individual interventions in inpatient and community settings.
- To liaise with a range of external partners to enable service users to access resources in the wider community including leisure, educational and vocational opportunities.
- To promote service user and carer involvement in all aspects of service user care.
- To assess and prescribe small aids and equipment and recommend adaptations to maximise independence for service users in home and community environments.
- Ensure thorough documentation of treatment in multi-professional notes in line with CPA requirements and Royal College of Occupational Therapists Professional Standards.
- To undertake regular evaluation of group interventions to ensure a balanced and needs led programme of activities.
