Job Overview

As a valued member of the team you will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of Doctors, Nurses, Emergency Care Assistants and Admin Staff and be responsible for the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating of nursing care within Ambulatory Emergency Care.

You will work with a team of doctors, nurses, specialist teams and other Healthcare Support Workers whilst undertaking care including initial assessments and take care of patients attending Ambulatory Emergency Care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

The postholder would be required to work according to Trust policies and professional guidelines.

Main duties of the job

• Ensure excellent communication skills are used when documenting care, taking messages or passing on information when appropriate, taking into account data protection and use of sensitive information.
• Taking responsibility for ordering of stock and equipment and ensuring stock levels are maintained within the unit.
• To act in a courteous and professional manner at all times within the unit and when assisting with patient needs and care.
• Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times and compliance with data protection act and trust policies related to patient care.
• To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and cover a range of shift times to ensure service delivery is maintained.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

• Perform ECGs - Report finding with clinicians
• Blood Glucose Monitoring
• Cannulate
• Venepuncture
• Maintain Stock within the unit
• Maintain Infection Control Standards within the unit
• Assist Nurse In Charge with Flow of the unit
• Assist patients to scan/radiology when required

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Educated to GSCE (or equivalent) level.
• Enthusiastic and motivated to learn.
• Willing to undertake training to carry out extended duties.
  
  

Desirable criteria

• NVQ or Equivalent
• Knowledge of hospital computer systems
  
  

Experience

Essential criteria

• Care Assistant experience in Acute Care Hospital Setting.
  
  

Desirable criteria

• Experience in Acute Care Medicine, Surgery or Emergency Department.
  
  

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Able to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
• Able to work to a consistently high standard within a team and independently.
• Good written English and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate verbally with all levels of personnel within the organisation.
