The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 8b Practitioner Psychologist to join their new Children and Young People’s Gender Service in London for a fixed-term contract of two years. This role involves a blended approach, with responsibilities split between the Gender Service and an allocated Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). Applicants are encouraged to highlight their preferences regarding the CAMHS component in their application. The position is designed to reflect the Cass Review's recommendations for comprehensive care of children and young people facing gender-related distress within a broader child and adolescent health framework.

Candidates should be experienced in children's mental health and may include Health and Educational Psychologists with relevant qualifications. The post will be divided into equal parts, with the psychologist working 0.5 of their time in the Children and Young People’s Gender Service, which offers assessment and therapeutic support to those questioning their gender or experiencing gender incongruence, and the other half in an agreed CAMHS. The trust aims to deliver effective and innovative care in collaboration with prominent healthcare institutions like Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
