The County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Patient Safety Lead for an 8-month fixed-term position in Darlington. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation of the Trust's Patient Safety Incident Response plan, provide leadership to the patient safety team, and coordinate investigations and thematic reviews related to patient safety incidents. The role emphasises creating a culture of safety, supporting staff and families affected by incidents, and driving initiatives aimed at improving patient care and reducing risks.
Key responsibilities include managing incident responses, ensuring compliance with national guidelines, and collaborating with various stakeholders to prioritize safety issues like falls and infections. The Patient Safety Lead will also analyze data to identify trends, maintain oversight of investigations, and develop action plans for service improvements. Essential skills involve compassionate leadership, effective communication, and the ability to manage a complex workload independently. A valid driver’s license for site travel is also required.

Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Patient Safety Team within a dynamic and progressing Patient Safety team on a fixed term basis.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Trust's Patient Safety Incident Response plan. The post holder will provide leadership and support to the patient safety team. The post holder will also be responsible for coordinating thematic reviews, patient safety investigations and learning from safety events.
The post holder will be highly skilled in the development of patient safety investigation reports and will be a key driver of Trust wide safety initiatives.
The post holder will be proative in delivering patient safety improvement and work collabroatively with the wider trust and external partners.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will lead the day to day delivery of the Trust's patient safety incident response plan to support the delivery of safer systems of care.
A large part of the role will be ensuring that learning and improvements occur from patient safety incidents with the aim of reducing future risk and helping make care safer, whilst ensuring that patients, their families, and staff are supported.
The post holder will provide line management and leadership to the paitent safety team and provide patient safety expertise to the wider team.

Job responsibilities
Provide patient safety expertise/leadership within the organisation; demonstrating compassionate leadership, visibility and supporting the continued development of the patient safety culture.
The post holder will lead, enable and facilitate change within the patient safety arena to deliver innovative ways of working that are patient safety centered.

Responsible for the management of day to day overview of investigations.
Manage a complex workload to tight deadlines and meet the requirements of a large number of stakeholders with minimal supervision.
Provide management and leadership to the Patient Safety team.
Work in collaboration and partnership with other key stakeholders to coordinate events around patient safety priorities including falls, pressure damage and infection, prevention and control.
Use highly developed motivational skills to encourage collaborative working.
Will gather and analyse a variety of data in different formats from a number of sources to identify patient safety related trends and themes and prioritise them for targeted action.
