The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is inviting applications for the position of Junior Clinical Spinal Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics, starting August 6, 2025. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of nine Spinal Orthopaedic Consultants at both the University Hospital of Wales and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. They will gain extensive experience in various spinal surgery procedures, including treatment for degenerative diseases, tumors, and scoliosis, and engage in an active research program supported by the Welsh Institute for Spinal Trauma & Surgery.
Although the role operates at a specialty registrar level and includes participation in the on-call rota, it is not associated with a National Training Number and lacks educational approval. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board serves a large population, emphasizing community health and partnerships, and boasts excellent postgraduate facilities due to its affiliation with Cardiff University. SPINAL SURGERY (StRH Grade)
Applications are invited for the above Spinal post vacant from 06 August 2025 to work at both the University Hospital of Wales & Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales.
The post holder will work with nine dedicated Spinal Orthopaedic Consultants who are actively involved in all aspects of spinal surgery ranging from degenerative cervical and lumbar disease to tumour and scoliosis. The Welsh Institute for Spinal Trauma & Surgery is a recognised AO Spine Reference Centre.
The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in all aspects of spinal surgery and there is an active research programme in place including basic science laboratory facilities. The ULHB is associated with Cardiff University and excellent postgraduate facilities are available.
The Post Holder will be expected to work at specialty Registrar level and will participate in the Spinal Fellow on call rota.
The post is not educationally approved and will therefore not attract a National Training Number.
