Swansea University is seeking a Locum Appointment for Service (LAS) ST Higher position in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. This fixed-term role spans from 5th February 2025 to 3rd February 2026, primarily to cover a training doctor vacancy. The successful candidate will collaborate with a diverse clinical team, including consultants and nurses, to provide high-quality and effective patient care based on established clinical pathways and protocols. Although the position is not recognized for training purposes, the appointee will have access to teaching opportunities and be encouraged to engage in audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Candidates should possess an MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification and have completed the MRCS before application. Experience in general thoracic and cardiac surgery at the ST3 level is particularly desirable. Effective communication skills, the ability to manage clinical decisions under pressure, and a commitment to personal development and the specialty are essential attributes. - MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Successful completion of MRCS by time of application
- a.12 months experience in general thoracic surgery of which a minimum of 6 months must have been spent at ST3 level
- b.12 months experience in cardiac surgery of which a minimum of 6 months must have been spent at ST3 level
- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practiseii from, the GMC at intended start date
- oEvidence of achievement of CT/ST2 competences in core surgery by time of application, acceptable evidence includes satisfactory ARCP outcome of completion of Core Surgical Training programme or Certificate of Readiness to Enter Higher Surgical Training
- Applicants must have demonstrable skills in written English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as assessed by the General Medical Council
- Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
- Validated logbook documentation of surgical exposure to date
- oDemonstrates appropriate technical and clinical competence and evidence of the development of diagnostic skills and clinical judgement
