The Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist role at HMP YOI Peterborough, offered by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, involves providing specialized mental health services within a collaborative team setting encompassing mental health, perinatal care, and substance misuse. The psychologist will have a key role in supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, particularly those with forensic and trauma backgrounds, and will lead on the development and delivery of psychological assessments and interventions. At HMP YOI Peterborough, NHFT deliver the mental health service, perinatal mental health, an integrated substance misuse service (ISMS) and primary healthcare service all delivered in an integrated and collaborative manner. The successful candidate will be a valued member of the broader NHFT team at the prison and within the Trust, with a core role within the Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will receive regular clinical professional supervision from the NHFT Secured Services Consultant Counselling Psychologist Sunil Lad, and form part of a wider network of Clinical, Counselling and Forensic Psychologists working in Forensic settings in NHFT as well as the wider Trust. There will be responsibility to supervise other psychologists and assistant psychologists.
HMP YOI Peterborough, comprises of a category B remand prison for over 900 men and a closed female prison for over 300 women, with a 12 bed Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). We are looking for a psychologist who possesses, highly specialist knowledge and experience of working with those with high risk and complex mental health needs, with forensic and trauma history and, ideally, experienced within forensic settings.
The successful candidate will promote and support a trauma informed care approach and support the work of the wider team with teaching, training, and supervision. The successful candidate will lead on the development and delivery of specialised psychological assessment and intervention, both individual and group, delivered by the mental health team. Provide supervision to the Senior Assistant Psychologist and others delivering psychological intervention. Support the team to develop case formulations and formulation led care plans. To hold a small complex caseload. Provide specialist psychological assessments based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources, risk assessments, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients and others involved in the patient's care.
