The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is offering a full-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry position based in Lancaster. This role combines NHS clinical duties (6 PAs) with an academic commitment (4 PAs) at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). The Consultant will work within the oral and maxillofacial department, providing restorative services and supporting clinical teaching and research. The position is primarily located at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, with responsibilities extending to UCLan in Preston and potentially other NHS sites serving Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Candidates should hold full registration with the General Dental Council and be on the specialist list for Restorative Dentistry, with an SAC-approved training completed or nearly finalized. This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry to combine NHS clinical activity with a formal commitment to academic clinical teaching and research. The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a full-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. This post attracts 10 PA's in total, 6 PAs for NHS activities based at UHMB (Lancaster) with the remaining 4 devoted to an academic role at the School of Dentistry at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). This post gives the opportunity to join the oral and maxillofacial department to provide the restorative consultant input to which a formal university academic component is added.
The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with duties at UCLan in Preston and the potential for work at other NHS sites including serving both Lancashire and South Cumbria patients.

The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLAN. The teams has recently been joined by an Honorary Consultant in Endodontics, based at UCLAN and there is scope for further development in this area.
There are offices, secretarial and computer facilities on all of our sites. We have and electronic EPR and PACs system for radiography and digital photography across the Bay.
There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with high quality and skilled technical support.
You should be fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice and on the specialist list for Restorative Dentistry. You should have successfully completed, or be within 6 months of an SAC approved training in restorative dentistry or equivalent at the time of interview.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay
