Healthcare Support Worker - Hospital at Night

An exciting opportunity is available to join Hospital at Night within one of the hospital sites across NHS Lothian. We have a Band 3 position available for a non-registered Nurse and we are looking for passionate, caring, motivated people to join our highly skilled nursing teams.

This vacancy is a full time contract, 37 hours per week.

What We Can Offer You

We have a vacancy for non-registered nurses to join our innovative and dynamic teams across NHS Lothian – providing you with the opportunity to gain a breadth of knowledge and exposure to the wider hospital with hospital at night covering the 3 adult acute sites; Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Western General Hospital and St John’s and will be an opportunity to work on two of the sites on a rotational basis.

Roles

• The function of the clinical support worker is to provide high quality patient care and work effectively as part of the Hospital at Night team.
• To provide clinical and administrative support service to the Nurse Practitioners and medical staff within the Hospital at Night team and undertake a range of clinical and non-clinical duties under their supervision and direction.
• Clinical Duties including: Venepuncture, cannulation, measuring & recording glucose levels, blader scanning, returning and recording urine testing, utilising the early warning score system (NEWS), assisting medical staff & ANP undertaking clinical duties including set up of procedure trolleys.
• Non-Clinical Duties including: Competent use of TRAK, participating in handover and documentation as part of the multi-disciplinary team, call taking with accurate message taking/giving.
  
  

Hospital At Night is a multidisciplinary team-based approach to providing safe and effective patient centred care to our patients overnight. The Hospital at Night concept was originally developed in response to a change in the European Working Time Directive for Junior Doctors. The focus of Hospital at Night is to provide safe care during the out of hours period by utilising healthcare professionals with a full range of clinical skills appropriate to respond to the acutely unwell patient. It also provides better support to trainee doctors adopting a team approach.
