Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated senior nurse who will provide professional and clinical leadership to Larch ward, a 20 bed surgical ward specialising primarily in emergency & elective gynaecology and general surgery. This is a busy and acute ward offering diverse experience and is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will lead the team. They will promote quality and excellence in nursing care, enhancing and developing clinical standards. They will ensure that the patient experience is of the highest quality - inspiring patient and public confidence.
The Surgical Unit at Lewisham hospital provides elective and emergency care across a range of specialties - Gynaecology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Orthopaedics, General, Urology and Colorectal Surgery.
The trust is committed to developing leadership expertise and is offering degrees in management via the apprenticeship route, which is a fully funded and accredited degree as part of one's personal/professional development.
We also have in house University of Greenwich accredited Surgical and Orthopaedic courses.
We are committed to developing all staff by providing training programs to enable them to gain a wide range of skills and experience including in house surgical skills, Urology, Spinal and Gynaecology study days.
Main duties of the job
The Ward Manager focuses on the delivery of high quality, safe and effectivecare focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, familiesand carers. Nurses/Midwives in this role will: Have continuous responsibility for a defined clinical area; Be the key contact member for the multidisciplinary teamProvide professional leadership and line management for a team of Nursing/midwifery and support staff;Delegate work and supervise colleagues accordingly;Assess patients, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care;Provide expert clinical advice;Ensure patient pathways are optimally managed;Manage budgets and resources efficiently and effectively;
Be responsible for the safety of the clinical environment; Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area. Ensure his/her group of patients have a managed pathway and beds in the ward are optimally utilised, seeking expert support if required.
