NHS Lothian is seeking a Lead Clinical Pharmacy Technician for the Pharmacy & Medicines Service at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. This Band 6, full-time position involves overseeing the clinical pharmacy technician team and collaborating with pharmacists to enhance pharmaceutical services for patients, particularly those with inflammatory bowel disease. The ideal candidate should be a registered Pharmacy Technician with relevant qualifications and experience, capable of managing and developing pharmacy roles while contributing to service improvements and strategic planning.

Gastroenterology at the Western General Hospital site provides high quality care to patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), nutritional care needs and other gastroenterology conditions across inpatient and outpatient areas. The gastroenterology unit comprises of a 17 bedded ward attached to an outpatient infusion suite for administration of biologic medicines and an outpatient department responsible for around 2000 IBD patients advanced therapy medicines.

- Play a key role in the day to day management and continued development and transformation of pharmacy technician and pharmacy support worker roles on the WGH site.

- Support the WGH Gastroenterology Pharmacy Team in day-to-day tasks including both outpatient work and inpatient work.

- Lead, manage, coordinate and develop the clinical pharmacy technician and pharmacy support worker resource to meet the needs of patients within the WGH.
- Contribute to the strategic and operational planning of the clinical pharmacy services to ensure the highest standards apply to all aspects of service provision.
- Learn about the Gastroenterology speciality, providing high cost and complex medications to patients.
- Attend a wide variety of clinical experiences, supported by robust training and development opportunities.
About You
We’re looking for someone:
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Hold a National Certificate in Pharmacy Services and Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
- Completed the HN unit: Procedures for Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technicians or Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician Award (provided by Buttercups or NPA, 2or before) and HNC Pharmacy Services Development and Management or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence.
- Hold a recognised work-based assessor’s certificate. (If a certificate has not already been achieved, it is required to be obtained within 24 months of starting in the position.)
