Job Overview
The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be competent in the use of IT systems. You will also be willing to work hard in a team, as well as confident to carry out individual duties. You will be interacting with a high number of patients each day, playing a vital part in making their stay as comfortable as possible.
Main duties of the job
On a typical day as a Porter you can expect to transport patients around the site, move equipment and furniture between wards, collect and deliver essential supplies and samples, undertake Postal Service/messenger duties, collect and dispose of waste and respond to any emergency situations that may arise.
Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to adhere to departmental standards and health and safety regulations. You will also act at all times in a manner that upholds the Trust’s values, working as part of a team to ensure efficiency and excellent customer care.
As a full-time member of staff you will work 37.5 hours a week on a rota shift pattern that includes nights. You will receive pay enhancements for unsociable hours.
As part of the recruitment process you will complete a Maths and English assessment, in order to progress to interview you will need to pass this test.

- Work to roster prepared by the site Portering Supervisor
- Ensure that all patients and visitors are treated in a polite and considerate manner and receive prompt assistance when required. To ensure that telephones are answered efficiently and courteously and that written and / or verbal messages are conveyed quickly, clearly and accurately.
- Transport patients by means of bed, wheelchair or trolley, ensuring that the transportation is carried out in a safe and courteous manner.
- Check that all modes of patient / equipment transport are safe and in good working order, place defect order for any maintenance that is required to your supervisor or departmental Manager.
