The NHS Scotland is seeking a Community Addictions Charge Nurse for University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock. The role involves providing comprehensive clinical assessments and recovery-focused treatment for clients facing addiction issues, including mental health complications. The nurse will work collaboratively with both statutory and non-statutory organisations, take referrals, conduct same-day assessments, and support the initiation of Medication Assisted Treatment. Community experience and a first-level registered nursing qualification in mental health are essential.
Candidates will need in-depth knowledge of addiction treatment strategies and a proactive approach to service design in alignment with national best practices. The position requires a UK driving license and involves a commitment of 37 hours per week, with a focus on delivering specialized assessments for detoxification and ongoing support for individuals with complex addiction and mental health needs.

Position
An opportunity has arisen for a Charge Nurse at University Hospital Crosshouse.
What You Will Do
You will be able to provide comprehensive clinical assessment and trauma informed recovery focused treatment & support to clients with a range of alcohol and drug problems including mental, sexual and physical health related issues. They will provide ongoing care to those who are clinically assessed as appropriate, liaise and work in conjunction with other statutory and non-statutory organisations. You will assess for a range of mental health problems and respond appropriately to these.
Community Experience Is Essential.
Part of this role will be to provide support as part of a rota for the single point of access part of service which provides same day/next day response to clients phoning in for help and support. This post will work closely with third sector agencies including With You and Ayrshire Council on Alcohol to provide this intervention. Taking referrals, providing same day assessments and signposting to appropriate agencies will be at the forefront of this intervention, as well as supporting initiation of Medication Assisted Treatment.
You will be motivated and forward thinking to deliver specialist assessment for community or in-patient detoxification, opiate substitution therapy (O.S.T.) and trauma informed recovery focused interventions to service users with complex addiction and mental health issues.

You are required to be a first level registered nurse in mental health.
A degree/diploma is preferred.
Expert in-depth comprehensive knowledge and experience in the field of Addictions is essential incorporating a range of cognitive, behavioural strategies to enhance lifestyle change. You are required to draw on this theoretical and practical knowledge to enhance service design and redesign in line with national standards of best practice.
As an expert in the field the post holder is routinely required to impart their knowledge and expertise to junior colleagues.
