The Mental Health In-Reach to Schools Practitioner position at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in Caerleon focuses on enhancing the mental well-being of students in primary and secondary schools. The role involves collaborating with school staff to build their confidence and skills in supporting pupils with lower-level mental health needs, while also facilitating access to specialized services when necessary. The position includes a combination of indirect clinical work, such as providing consultation, supervision, and training, as well as the possibility of offering direct therapeutic interventions.
Candidates should have experience in assessing and delivering psychological interventions to children and families, with relevant professional registration and appropriate training in psychological therapy frameworks. The Mental Health In-Reach to Schools team works to improve the well-being of pupils in Secondary Schools and Primary Schools by developing school staff’s skills and confidence to support pupils with lower-level mental health and well-being needs within their competence/within their role as teachers; and enables access to specialist provision where this is indicated.
Working options -
Full-time, all year round (1 WTE)
Full-time, term-time only (0.89 FTE)
Part-time (4 days a week) term time only (0.67 FTE)
Main duties of the job
You will play a key role in delivering team outcomes by working in partnership with schools, providing consultation, supervision and training to teachers and other key professionals; and working collaboratively with staff at a range of levels and from a range of agencies to support a whole-school approach to improving mental well-being. While much of your clinical work will be indirect, you may provide direct clinical services (including assessment of need and provision of therapeutic interventions) as required.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
