We are looking for an experienced nurse to join our nursing team. The ideal candidate will be committed, have excellent communication and clinical skills, empathic nature and be able to lead a team to provide a high standard of care. He/she will be positively encouraged to recognise and develop service improvement.

The specialist training for chemotherapy administration and brachytherapy will be provided.

Ward 4 (previously Ward 2) predominantly cares for patient who are receiving planned chemotherapy/ Brachytherapy and/or are undergoing minor procedures that require an overnight stay.

The successful candidate would be expected to deliver and maintain a high standard of planned nursing care.

The ideal candidate will be committed, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and have an empathic nature.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients undergoing chemotherapy/ brachytherapy and a diverse range of minor procedures.
  • Act as a clinical role model for new staff, reflecting the philosophy, beliefs, and standards of the department.
  • To effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote a positive working partnership across all departments/ wards.
  • To act as a preceptor/mentor/clinical supervisor for junior staff and students.
  • Ensure that all prescribed drugs and treatments are given correctly and in accordance with Trust policy, including the correct care and custody of controlled drugs.
  • Escalate concerns in a patient’s condition to senior members of the nursing team, medical staff.
  • To maintain full compliance with all essential training and clinical skills competencies.
  • To identify areas for self-development and training within the Performance Planning and Development Review structure.

As a band 6 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse it is also expected that you would play an active role in the development of the team and be willing to take on managerial duties whilst supporting the ward manager.
