Hybrid Arrhythmia & ICC Trainee Enhanced Practitioner with University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) in Bristol
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic nurse with a sound cardiology background to work in the Arrhythmia and Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) Enhanced Practitioner Teams within the Bristol Heart Institute. This role was formerly known as "Clinical Nurse Specialist" however it has been rebranded to better reflect the nature and expectations of the role. This is a 12-month secondment post, currently 37 hours p/week (0.99WTE). The successful candidate will have a good understanding of both arrhythmia and ICCs, an awareness of genetics and inheritance, good understanding of ECGs, and hold relevant post graduate education and development. They must possess excellent communication and organisational skills. As a tertiary referral centre, the Bristol Heart Institute provides high quality cardiac services to a wide reaching and diverse population within Bristol and the South West. The role involves working closely with the Electrophysiology team and with the ICC team, to support patients with or those at risk of developing arrhythmias or ICC.The service includes comprehensive pre-operative assessment, follow-up clinics and a busy advice line. The successful candidate will be supported on their learning and development by both Arrhythmia and ICC Enhanced Practitioners, with the aim of ensuring the delivery of a consistently high quality and compassionate service to this patient group. (Cont'd under detailed job description and main responsibilities) Communication & Relationship skills: o To function as a patient's advocate, to negotiate and mediate with the healthcare system to ensure optimum care to patientso Provide clear clinical advice and/or reassurance to patients, carers and family members who seek guidance via the telephone or email helpline service.o Give written and verbal teaching to patients, carers and family members, making reasonable adjustments where required.o With support from Band 7 Arrhythmia Enhanced Practitioners and Band 7 ICC Enhanced Practitioner be skilled at having difficult conversations whilst maintaining confidentiality with patients, carers and staff, demonstrating politeness and sensitivity in providing compassionate care.o Maintain effective communication and relationships with the clinical and non-clinical members of the multidisciplinary team.o Work closely with electrophysiology doctors, ICC doctors and cardiac physiologists to ensure that patient care is prioritised and delivered in a timely manner.o Working with the MDT giving support to families during new diagnoses, bereavement and loss, identifying those that require ongoing support, signposting them to the appropriate services as required.o Participate in relevant educational meetings and MDTs, actively engaging and collaborating with the wider team to improve patient care and outcomes.
