I work as part of the mental health team to support the wellbeing of the residents of HMP Haverigg during their time in prison.
A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to work for Rethink Mental Illness as a Senior Health and Wellbeing Coach (SHWBC) within the secure forensic inpatient wards at Ridgeway, Roseberry Park Hospital. The role will form part of a new Integrated Care Mental Health team, leading a team of Health and Wellbeing Coaches (HWBC) to deliver low level therapeutic interventions. The post holder will provide coordination of duties, leadership and supervision whilst effectively engaging with Ridgeway managers, supporting with quality assurance processes, cultural development and team level activities to provide a high quality HWBC service. The role will include empowering and enabling the HWBCs to deliver high quality care and to work alongside other professionals to support the mental health of the secure hospital population, ensuring HWBCs are confident and competent within their roles. The Senior HWBC will model excellent care, supporting people with mental illnesses in the self-management of their recovery, building a professional relationship of trust in a non-judgmental manner with every client, as a basis for developing and enabling therapeutic relationships.
You will work alongside the other staff in the mental health team to deliver high quality, mental health support during an individuals time in prison and in onward planning for their release into the community.

- I work as part of the mental health team to support the wellbeing of the residents of HMP Haverigg during their time in prison
- I work with other stakeholders as needed to ensure a holistic support package is in place
- Provide comprehensive induction pack and suite of self-help materials to support with mental health awareness and wellbeing within the prison
- I joint work to provide appropriate packages of care, e.g. joint activities with substance misuse services.
- To work in a coaching manner, exploring ways of goal setting with people to help them achieve their ambitions.
- I organise and facilitate group-based workshops and activities, ensuring self-help and peer support groups cover a flexible timetable.
- I ensure a collaborative approach with the multi-disciplinary team, constructing and maintain professional and effective working relationships to gain the best person centred / recovery outcomes for the individual.
- I develop and facilitate service user forums.
- I establish and maintain links with other services, to ensure awareness and knowledge, promote partnership working.
- Attendance at prisoner meetings to inform residents of services and support on offer for mild and moderate mental health needs and conditions.
- Work closely with Prison Consultative Committees and Service User Forums to identify, recruit and train suitable patients to become Peer Mentors providing additional emotional/practical support.
- I support individuals in HMP Haverigg to build skills and to feel confident to engage in activities to tackle stigma and discrimination.
- I work with colleagues in Rethink Mental Illness to develop an engagement strategy for those in prison so that our work is co-produced and delivered by people affected by mental illness.
- I ensure the highest standards of clinical record keeping, including electronic data entering and recording on Rethink and Prison systems.
- I contribute to the development of the highest standard of professional practice within the service.
- I contribute to the identification, management, and reduction of risk in the area of responsibility.
- I report any incidents of harm or near miss in line with Rethink and HMP incident reporting policy ensuring appropriate actions are taken to reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
