Armed Forces Friendly Employer

We are holders of the Gold Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which is helping actively promote SaBRE - Supporting Britains Reservists and Employers. This means that York Teaching Hospital has provided its statement of intent to support all Defence personnel and we welcome their application to work for us.

Disability Confident and Mindful Employer

The Trust is committed to meeting the needs of employees and applicants with a disability or mental health condition. Our support for these schemes includes encouraging applications from people who are disabled or have a mental health condition, offering adjustments to make our application process accessible.

Duties will be divided between the paediatric ward (including seeing acute admissions on the children's assessment unit) and the level 2 neonatal unit.

You will be responsible, with the support of Consultants, for the day-to-day care of all medical admissions to the children's ward, and the provision of shared care for all surgical, orthopaedic and dental patients admitted to the paediatric ward.

Other responsibilities include the ward rounds on the general paediatric wards, neonatal unit and transitional care. Also to provide support to junior colleagues regarding routine examination of newborn babies in the maternity ward, resuscitation of the newborn in the delivery suites and the care of patients on the neonatal unit.

The rota also includes outpatient sessions where new patients are seen with Paediatric Consultants.

The department runs a consultant of the week system (with a separate consultant covering paediatrics and neonates during the week) and the successful post holder(s) will be well supported at all times. Although this post is not a formal training post, the post holder will be exposed to the same educational opportunities and supervision as the other junior doctors.

We operate a full shift system and the post holder(s) will work a combination of normal working days, long days, twilight and night shifts including weekend work.
