About usMAIN PURPOSE OF THIS POST:
Clinical Management
To be a self directed, autonomous practitioner working at an advanced level, able to undertake the assessment of individuals within the remit of the key worker role. To be a clinical expert in the field of cancer, providing expert advice to patients, families and staff to enhance the patient journey. To promote a patient focused multidisciplinary approach to care in collaboration with carers, health professional and other agencies.
Operational Management
To assist in supporting and advising and advancing service delivery within NHSV cancer services ensuring key criteria are met and targets are delivered. Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of evidenced based standards, guidelines and patient pathways.
Resource Management
Effectively managing resources in all forms (where relevant) and ensuring a pro active approach to managing resources.
Education and Training
Keeping up with current developments and trends in clinical practice to include identifying own and team learning and education needs, maintaining competency requirements, portraying a positive image and supporting the ward/department team. Participate in the teaching and training of staff across the unit to develop others knowledge, skills and competence.
Ensuring Quality
Ensuring the highest quality of practice and care through effective monitoring of own and others clinical competence. Maintain awareness of the national, professional and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of the specialist service area. Participation in the audit processes for monitoring and reviewing quality, leading to improvement of services for patients.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Clinical Management
Demonstrates competent clinical practice at all times, is accountable for own actions and acts as a role model
Ensures that they and others can appropriately assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care they provide
Ensures that they and others respect the principles of patient privacy, dignity, autonomy and confidentiality
Provides patients, families and carers with expert, unbiased information regarding the causes, care and management of their condition
Assumes the role of key worker for patients within their care, providing continuity of care
Promotes effective team working to maximise effectiveness of service provision
Facilitates a seamless patient journey from admission to discharge
Care Management
To ensure all staff are kept up to date in a timely manner with any changes to the patients care and / or needs
Ensures that accurate and contemporaneous patient and staff records are maintained which are stored correctly and safely
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to address complex and changing needs
Ensures that nursing care is delivered and changed in accordance with clinical plans, acts as a supervisor to the clinical team and advocate to the patient
Demonstrates competence in any emergency situation
Ensures that all staff adhere to appropriate nursing, national and NMC guidelines at all times
To be responsible for ensuring that all staff adhere to all necessary policies and procedures
Facilitates multi-disciplinary team working encouraging referral to appropriate professionals/agencies as necessary

Ensures all staff members make efficient use of available resources with regard to budgetary constraints and business objectives
Maximises revenue capture from patient care
Delivers clinical services cost effectively
