An exciting opportunity has arisen as part of Family Hub development within Sunderland to join our Family Peer Support team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, who is passionate about developing and delivering projects, including teaching parents in the community, and providing activities in collaboration with partners, to promote better health and wellbeing for babies, children, young people and families in our local communities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as part of Family Hub development within Sunderland to join our Family Peer Support team. This is a fixed term post until end June 2025 with various hours available.

The post holder will provide a high standard of information and support to Children and their families in a range of settings (home, communities, Family Hubs and clinics etc.)

The post holder, following appropriate training will work with appropriate supervision and to undertake a range of tasks including promoting and supporting breastfeeding, supporting emotional health, parenting, home learning, supporting child development and speech and language. The Family Peer Supporter role is an integral part of our 0-19 (25) Family Health Service delivery across Sunderland, and will work in partnership through the Family Hubs in Sunderland.

About us

To support mothers, children/young people and their families with low level issues around infant feeding, managing emotional health, or general areas of concern.

To support parent/infant relationships and promote sensitive and attuned parenting to develop secure attachments.

Help build a positive breastfeeding culture in communities, provide low level Breastfeeding support through groups, responsive to requests from women.

Help reduce stigma around mental health and increase confidence through wellbeing walks.

Provide low level parenting support, through home learning, supporting child development, speech and language, child accident prevention and school readiness.

Work independently with families and voluntary and statutory agencies,with appropriate supervision.

Utilise a community engagement approach to develop appropriate activities and events to support Infant Feeding and emotional health and wellbeing.

Support with addressing food insecurity; Healthy Start initiatives; reducing isolation within communities.
