Junior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London
The Surgery, Cancer and Cardiovascular Sciences (SCC) division is one of three divisions within Imperial College Healthcare Trust. The Vascular Surgery directorate is based at St Mary's Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. We also support satellite services at both West Middlesex hospital and Chelsea and Westminster hospital. We receive around 7,000 new general vascular referrals annually, including both GP and tertiary referrals. Our Vascular Surgery team currently perform over 1,500 daycase surgeries per year and 500+ inpatient operations as part of our elective care pathway. The team also perform more than 600 non-elective procedures on an annual basis. There are 10 consultant surgeons, 5 specialist registrars, 2 clinical lecturers, 4 Research SpRs, 9 FY2/CT/Trust grades, 3 FY1s, and 4 AVNPs within the unit. The post holder will be well supported by this large clinical team. A 12 month fixed term opportunity has arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow within the directorate to undertake various clinical duties as well as academic responsibilities. They will work with the clinical, admin and management teams along with support services to meet the clinical, surgical and research demands on the vascular surgery service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust with a strong emphasis on education. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and dynamic team player to join a large multi-disciplinary team, in the directorate of Vascular Surgery. The Vascular Unit has a strong commitment to teaching, research and audit and its work is known both nationally and internationally. The Clinical Fellow will take part in a resident on call rota which is compliant with European Working Time Directive, with the other SHO level posts in Vascular Surgery However, all posts within the Trust are constantly under review with the aim of introducing more compliant working patterns, your co- operation and participation in this process will be key These will be at a Unit level and include the dictation of discharge letters, electronic ordering of investigation etc. and the generation of data for the audit programme and the presentation of patients at the weekly meeting. It is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure that communication within the vascular service is as effective as possible, keeping both the Consultants, SpRs and Senior Nursing Staff informed of the clinical management of all patients admitted. Administrative responsibilities- These will be at a Unit level and include the dictation of discharge letters, electronic ordering of investigation etc. and the generation of data for the audit programme and the presentation of patients at the weekly meeting. It is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure that communication within the vascular service is as effective as possible, keeping both the Consultants, SpRs and Senior Nursing Staff informed of the clinical management of all patients admitted. Detailed protocols for clinical management are available within the department and the Trust Intranet which the post holder is expected to adhere at all times. Clinics- There are out-patient clinics on all three sites throughout the week. There are additional OPD clinics at West Middlesex Hospital and at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. All of the in-patient activity takes place at St. Marys Hospital. There are day case procedures at Charing Cross and at St. Marys Hospital. SHOs will take part in daycase and inpatient theatre lists, clinics and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings
