Band 5 post

Hours: up to 37.5 hours per week

Are you interested in renal dietetics? Are you looking to start or progress your career as a Band 5 Dietitian, in a supportive department which emphasises clinical supervision and peer support, as well as learning and development across the Four Pillars of Practice, this may be the post for you!

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive renal team based at York Hospital. You will be joining a forward thinking department of over 30 Dietitians York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which is valued and respected throughout the Trust and the renal multidisciplinary team.

You will mainly be working within York Hospital, however there will also be the opportunity to work cross-site, including at Scarborough Hospital and renal units at Harrogate, Easingwold and Selby.
The ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during the course of a normal working day is required for this post.

The department places a strong emphasis on clinical and peer support and clinical supervision, and has a well-established programme facilitating the training of Dietetic students on the three clinical placements included within their training. We are also involved in delivering a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust, relating to nutritional care.

We will support you to develop skills across inpatients and outpatients including clinics and group education. If you are a newly qualified Dietitian in your first year of practice, we have a Preceptorship programme to help support development of your skills and confidence as an autonomous practitioner.

You will have the opportunity to work with experienced Dietitians and the Advanced Clinical Specialist Dietitian for renal as well as within the renal multi-professional team. You will also work alongside other Band 5 Dietitians, Dietetic Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners, to provide inpatient services across other areas, including General Medicine, Stroke, Gastroenterology, Care of the Elderly and Cancer.

Within the acute setting, in addition to oral nutrition support, you will be able to develop clinical skills working with patients requiring enteral tube feeding and parenteral nutrition. Outpatient clinic work will include interventions for the management of those with reduced kidney function (General Nephrology) and those with urological conditions.

The successful candidate will be involved in these important aspects of supporting the learning and development of others.

About us

We are proud to offer our Multi-Professional Preceptorship Programme to all newly registered practitioners. This is a wonderful opportunity to welcome you into your new teams and our Trust, providing you with support and guidance as you develop in confidence and competence whilst transitioning from student to autonomous professional.

Preceptorship lasts 12 months and you will be assigned a preceptee who will support coach, mentor and guide you through regular meetings, along side a programme of structured learning.
